About Buddy's

My name is Jane Lord and I am the founder of Buddy’s for Children with Autism.

Through research and experience, I recognised that there was a need to help  the parent carers and children who experience autism.

My son experiences autism and during 2014 he was bullied repeatedly by youths in the Bury area. These attacks  left him incredibly, anxious and apprehensive regarding accessing his own community. Therefore, I decided to look into the option of a service dog to be used as a guide dog to allow him to be an accepted part of this community in a safe and acceptable manner.

During 2014 I raised funds for the training of the dog as the costs ran into thousands. At the same time I was spreading awarness of autism and it became apparent through my dealings with the local community that more support was needed for parent carers, children and siblings on the autism spectrum. Buddy's for Children with Autism was formed intially with the purpose of funding the training of service dogs to be placed with a person on the autism spectrum. The remit quickly changed.

In 2015 I decided to look for local premises which would provide much needed support for the local community.  The plan is to open each area in stages, funds permitting.Buddy's for Children with Autism's first home is 8 The Rock, Bury. Our boutique charity shop was offically opened by the mayoress of Bury in October 2015. In September 2015 Buddy's autism friendly safespace area was opened. If you are out and about in Bury and your young person needs a quiet calm enviroment just pop in and say "safespace" and if it is free we will show you down to the area. Please note this is downstairs and we currenty do not have wheelchair access to this area I'm afraid, we're hoping to find funding for this soon. November 2015 saw Buddy's opening the first adult changing area in Bury. The changing table was kindly donated by a regular local sponsor of ours Millercare, Bury. Buddy's Cafe-Shakey J's opened in December 2015 and you can now pop in, have a drink, milkshake, sandwich and snack whilst you browse around the lovely charity shop. In April 2016 Buddy's Events opened, we now have a lovely venue for birthday/celebrations/business meetings, Food and drinks can be provided subject to a small additional cost.

In 2017 Buddy's finally achieved official charity status. Our registration number is 1172216

We always need donations for the charity shop and we still have many phases to open.  Our next projects we're raising funds for are the sensory garden and wheelchair access to downstairs.

Are you a local business who could supply materials/labour to help us complete these phases?

    We need your HELP please.
